Action Editing — Chase Sequences

Learning Objective

Practice editing a chase sequence with an accelerating cutting rhythm.

This Week

The chase sequence is one of the most kinetically exciting forms of action editing. The cutting rhythm should accelerate as the tension builds, creating a sense of increasing urgency and excitement. The key is to maintain spatial clarity even as the cutting becomes faster — the audience must always know who is chasing whom and where they are in relation to each other.

Daily Practice

Practice editing a short chase sequence, focusing on the accelerating rhythm and spatial clarity. (45–60 min)

Weekly Challenge

Edit a 90-second chase sequence with an accelerating cutting rhythm. The pace should feel like it is building toward an inevitable conclusion.
