Phase 3: Genre & Voice
Week 33 of 52 · Day 225–231
Action Editing — Recreating a Master
Learning Objective
Re-edit a famous action scene, trying to match the original editor's rhythm.
This Week
One of the best ways to develop your action editing instincts is to try to recreate the work of a master. Take a famous action scene — the hallway fight in Oldboy, the freeway chase in The Matrix Reloaded, the Fury Road opening — and try to re-edit it from the raw footage, matching the original editor's rhythm and spatial logic.
Daily Practice
Study the action scene you have chosen, frame by frame. Analyze every cut: why was it made here? What does it accomplish? (45–60 min)
Weekly Challenge
Re-edit a famous action scene from a film you admire, trying to match the original editor's rhythm. Compare your version to the original.
