Your Editing Philosophy

Learning Objective

Write your personal editing philosophy statement.

This Week

What do you believe editing is for? What kind of stories do you want to tell? What editors do you admire, and why? This week, you will articulate your own editing philosophy — the principles and values that will guide your creative decisions for the rest of your career.

Daily Practice

Review the work of three editors you admire. Write notes on what you find most compelling about each one's approach. (45–60 min)

Weekly Challenge

Write your personal editing philosophy statement. It should be 300–500 words and answer the question: what do you believe editing is for?
