Film Editing Mastery
Phase 1: The Foundation
Week 11 of 52 · Day 71–77

Basic Color Correction

Learning Objective

Learn the fundamentals of color correction to create a balanced, professional-looking image.

This Week

Color correction is the process of making your footage look the way it was supposed to look — correcting exposure, white balance, and color casts. Color grading (which you will study in Phase 4) is the creative process of giving your footage a specific look and mood. This week, you focus on correction, not grading. A well-corrected image is the foundation of all subsequent color work.

Daily Practice

Take a collection of clips shot in different lighting conditions and practice correcting them to a consistent, neutral baseline using your NLE's color tools. (30–45 min)

Weekly Challenge

Color correct a 3-minute sequence so that all shots match in terms of exposure and white balance, creating a seamless, professional-looking result.
