Phase 3: Genre & Voice
Week 37 of 52 · Day 253–259
Comedy Editing — Genre Re-Edit
Learning Objective
Take a dramatic scene and re-edit it as a comedy.
This Week
One of the most illuminating exercises in genre editing is to take a scene from one genre and re-edit it in a completely different genre. This week, you will take a dramatic scene and re-edit it as a comedy. The exercise reveals how much of genre is created in the editing room, not on the set.
Daily Practice
Study the dramatic scene you have chosen. Identify the moments that could be played for comedy — the awkward pauses, the unexpected reactions, the moments of physical comedy. (45–60 min)
Weekly Challenge
Take a dramatic scene and re-edit it as a comedy. What changes? What stays the same? Write a 200-word reflection on what the exercise reveals about the relationship between genre and editing.
